How To Fix A Corrupted Outlook Pst File

Microsoft Outlook stores all your emails in PST (Personal Storage Table) files. Microsoft Outlook uses this file format to store all Outlook data including emails, calendar, contacts and any other information. The convenience of saving data in this format is that, it allows for the easy transfer of data files between different computers and backing up of your emails. However, you may end up having some problems if these PST files get corrupted or damaged. That is why Microsoft has included an Outlook repair tool called “Outlook Inbox Repair” tool or “Scanpst.exe” tool, which can help fix damaged .PST files.

Repairing corrupted .PST files in Outlook 2007

  • Before you start the repair process, be sure your Outlook 2007 is not open. 
  • Go to the Start menu and click on “Computer”.
  • Locate the “C:” drive and double-click to open it. 
  • Double-click “Program files” to open the folder.
  • Inside “Program files” you can find the folder for “Microsoft Office”. Open this folder and double-click “Office 2012”.
  • Locate the file named “Scanpst.exe” and double-click to launch the repair tool.
  • When the repair tool window opens, click on “Browse” and select the corrupted PST file.
  • Once you have selected the PST file to repair, click “Start”. This will start the repair process.
  • This tool will find the errors and list them. Click “Repair” button to fix those errors.
  • After the repair process is complete, exit the repair tool.
  • Now re-launch Microsoft Outlook 2007 program. Some might have multiple Outlook profiles. Be sure to select the profile with the damaged PST file.
  • From the menu bar at the top of the screen, click “Go” and then click “Folder List”.
  • Under the Folder List menu, you can find “Recovered Personal Folders”. Click it to expand to find the “Lost and Found” folder.
  • From the “Lost and Found” folder, select the entire contents and drag it to the correct location in the folder list. After you have restored all the lost files, you may delete the “Recovered Personal Folders” folder. 

Now that you have fixed problems with the corrupted PST file, you should be able to send and receive emails without any problem. Steps To Recover An Excel Work File That Wasn't Saved

A couple of days back I faced this issue with the Excel program. The Excel sheet on which I was working suddenly stopped responding and just hung up. I had to force shut down my system and I googgled for a solution that could help me recover the same. 
The instruction outlined below helped me.

Instructions to resolve Excel problems

  • Launch Microsoft Excel application by clicking the desktop shortcut label or by double clicking the shortcut label on the quick access bar. Instead, you may launch the same from the Start menu. Click on the Start orb placed on the bottom left corner of the home screen. From the Start menu select the label that treads All Programs.
  • From the All Programs list, select the label that reads Microsoft Excel.
  • Instead, if you are using Windows 7 or Windows Vista based OS, place the mouse pointer in text space in the Start menu. Enter Microsoft Excel into the text space and hit Enter. This will launch the application. 
  • Select the label that reads File placed on the upper-left hand corner of the screen. From the File dropdown, select the label that reads Recent.
  • Now click on the label that reads Recover Unsaved Workbooks. This will list down the workbooks you had worked and that was not saved. 
  • Select the file you were working on from the list. Excel will auto save the file listing the details of the date and time when the file was closed. This will help you find the file that was saved or closed. 
  • Hit the Open label.
  • Select the Save As option to save the file. Save the file after naming it.

Files Previously Saved

  • Open the document that you were working on.
  • Select the label that reads File placed on the upper-left hand corner of the screen. From the File dropdown, select the label that reads Info.
  • From the Info page, under the Versions heading select the version labeled when I closed without saving. 
  • Hit the Restore option to restore the Excel worksheet that was not saved.
